Freedom Cottage - The Locality
Pilton is one of those picturesque picture postcard villages. Occupying it's own valley it is home to around 300 people (apart from perhaps two weeks most years when it has nearer the population of Bath, courtesy of the Glastonbury Festival of course!). Lying between the two Mediaeval towns of Glastonbury
and Shepton Mallet it is also within six miles of the
historic Mediaeval City of Wells - Englands smallest
city with it's majestic Cathedral
and moated Bishop's Palace (home to The Bishop of Bath
and Wells). |

There is a wealth of places to visit and activities to take
part in, in the local area. Aside from the historic towns and cities nearby
there are lots of National Trust properties within an easy drive, including
Stourhead,
Barrington
Court and Montacute
House.
For the more active, Pilton itself has it's own village
trail, taking approximately one and a half hours to complete
as well as many other trails and footpaths into the surrounding countryside. |
In the range of hills just to the north of Wells (6 miles from Pilton) is Priddy the third biggest caving area after Yorkshire and South Wales with bunk houses and changing facilities. Other attractions close by include the glorious Cheddar
Gorge and caves, which have organised rock climbing, Wookey
Hole caves and attractions for people of all ages and great
if the weather is a bit inclement. |

For the bike riders, and walkers, there’s something for everybody. If you like a bit of a challenge there’s the Mendip Hills.
For those who enjoy a nice sedate bike ride (or walk) there’s
the beautiful Sedgemoor trail meandering it's way across
the Somerset levels. This is all at sea level and a
great place for bird and nature lovers too. Horse riding
is available within 7 miles and there are two Golf Courses
nearby. |
For those who love to ‘shop till they drop’, just 8 miles away there’s plenty of bargains to be had at Clarks Village (outlet centre) with loads of famous names to tempt you. And we are within reasonable distance of the busy cities of Bath, Bristol and Taunton. |
